Boris Stein brings over 40 years of domestic and international experience in concrete materials science and technology; research, development, and implementation of innovative types of concrete and constructions methods; troubleshooting and forensic investigations; quality control and testing; development of technical guidelines, specifications, and practices; teaching and industry training. He serves as Senior Vice President – Applied Engineering & Research of Twining, Inc., Long Beach, CA and founding partner of Construction Materials Technology Research Associates, LLC, Long Beach, CA, a company providing technology development and engineering consulting services in cementitious materials, concrete, and construction to companies in the US and overseas.
Boris Stein graduated Moscow Civil Engineering University, Russia with Master of Science degree in engineering (specialization in engineering and technology of building materials). For his research, he holds an academic degree of Doctor of Science (in materials science) conferred upon him honoris causa by Dubna University, Russian Federation.
Some of his contributions to the development of innovative construction methods include ultra-rapid hardening concrete and practices of fast-track rehabilitation of transportation infrastructure; cracking minimization and service life enhancing practices; use of industrial byproducts for the replacement of natural materials for production of concrete; cementitious materials and concrete with reduced carbon dioxide footprint, etc.
Projects performed with his participation are recognized by the industry. One of them received the National Award for Excellence of USA Concrete Pavement Association. Another holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest continuously placed concrete foundation.
Boris Stein is the author and co-author of numerous publications on concrete materials science, technology, production, and construction methods, among them textbook «Concrete Materials and Mix Design – Review Course for Civil Engineer Candidates», Professional Engineering Development Publications, Inc., 2008, 2010, 2012, 2017; English – Russian Dictionary on Chemistry and Technology of Silicate Materials, Moscow, 1986, and others. Boris Stein is a frequent lecturer on various aspects of concrete materials science and technology. He is on faculty with the Irvine Institute of Technology, CA where he teaches a review course on concrete for civil engineer candidates. He developed training courses for production and construction of various types of concrete pavements and has provided more than 150 seminars to contractors, suppliers, and agencies.
